City of Maryville reviews data to use at retail conference

The City of Maryville and Nodaway County Economic Development recently partnered with a company called Retail Strategies to conduct a study of the city's retail reach in the region. Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel says the City Council reviewed the studies findings during their meeting earlier this week.

"The results from Retail Strategies were pretty significant.  In fact, our customized trade area has a daytime population of 58,667 so that is people from basically Clarinda to Savannah, from Albany to Tarkio that consistently shop here in Maryville for their basic needs.  Some of that data was done by cellphone data so we have an accurate picture of what a retail population and leakage is so we can further attract national retailers."

McDanel says city officials will take information from the study to a national convention of retailers next week.

"City staff will attend next week ICSC RECon, which is the world's largest retailer and economic developer conference, that allows us to be in front of various national retailers in an ability to kind of sell Maryville as a potential home for their location of their retail chain.  We do have to meet certain demographic data so of course not all retailers would be interested in a market.  But now with this data we can help secure this conversation."

Besides discussing Retail Strategies, the Maryville City Council also approved the purchase of a 2020 Ford Police Utility All-Wheel-Drive vehicle from Tri-State Ford Lincoln and approved a contract with Wells Bank for Banking and Investment Services.
