Trash Bash to clean up Missouri begins later this month

The Missouri Department of Conservation and Department of Transportation are once again partnering to sponsor the Annual Trash Bash beginning later this month. The program, part of a state wide No MOre Trash! campaign, encourages Missouri residents to clean up litter all around the state. Coordinator of No MOre Trash! for MoDOT Stacy Armstrong says the Trash Bash is an opportunity for volunteers to help clean Missouri's roads.

"We are asking everyone during April 15th to May 15th to go out and give Missouri a good spring cleaning.  I work specifically with the 'Adopt-a-Highway' program. And we have over 5000 groups that are involved with 'Adopt-a-Highway' and it would be awesome if they all got out and helped us get the roadsides cleaned up."

Armstrong adds the biggest part of the No MOre Trash! campaign is to discourage littering in the first place.

"It's a very labor intensive operation and it's also very costly.  Last year we spent 6.4 million dollars picking up litter.  And that's money and time that could go to other more worthwhile activities.  Like this time of the year, we do a lot of potholes.  So think about that and please don't litter."
