Tarkio River Bridge work to begin on April 15th

The Tarkio River Bridge on Route J near Fairfax is set to be replaced this summer. Marcia Johnson, Communications Specialist for MoDOT,  says the bridge is being replaced due to old age.

"It's not that there's something anything wrong with the bridge necessarily.  It is structuraly sufficient, basically meaning it's an old style.  If there were anything wrong with it, as to where it would be unsafe for drivers, we would close it immediately.   But most bridges are built to last about 50 years and this one was built in 1952.  So it's definitely served it's proposed lifespan."

The replacement project to bring the bridge up to current standards will be led by contractors from Phillips Hardy Incorporated, along with the Missouri Department of Transportation. Crews will close off all traffic from the bridge on Monday, April 15th. All work is weather permitting, and will continue through the summer with the bridge project expected to be complete in August.
