Rabies Vaccination Clinics to begin May 6th

The City of St. Joseph Health Department Animal Control and Rescue has set the dates for this year's citywide, low-cost rabies vaccinations clinics. Humane Educator at St. Joseph Animal Control and Rescue, Jennifer Lockwood, says Animal Control and Rescue put on these clinics for a low cost vaccination.

"We do have volunteer veterinarians on site giving the rabies vaccination and we do help hold them throughout the city of St. Joseph on five different days over the next two weeks starting on May 6th and ending May 16th."

Lockwood adds it is important for pet owners to have their pets vaccinated.

"Any animal over the age of three months is required to get vaccinated against the rabies virus.  The rabies virus is actually a notic disease which means humans can get it through a bite, so it's really really important that all of our animals and pets are vaccinated against this.  There are some wildlife that do carry this disease.  It's not as common in the United States but it is very important that we continue to vaccinate our animals against it so it doesn't become an issue."
