Proposal to change the handling of sexual assault allegations hits roadblock

A proposal to change how Missouri colleges and
universities handle allegations of sexual assault and harassment has hit a
roadblock in the state Senate.

A roughly six-hour debate on the bill that stretched from Tuesday night into
Wednesday morning ended without any action.

Backers say it's meant to protect the rights of students accused of sexual
assault. But it's received considerable pushback from both colleges and victim
advocates, who caution that it could dissuade victims from coming forward.
