Northwest to host music festival

Northwest Missouri State University is hosting a two-day music festival featuring pianist Dr. Scott Carrell this upcoming Sunday and Monday. The festival is a celebration of 300 years of French piano music. Northwest students will be involved in all aspects of the festival. Professor of Music at Northwest, Dr. Ernest Kramer, says Dr. Carrell will also be an integral part of the festival.

"He is a fantastic pianist and professor from Harding University in Arkansas.  On Sunday, April the 7th, he's going to do two things.  He's going to present a lecture about French music at 2:00 p.m. in Fine Arts room 244.   And then in the evening at 7:30 in the Charles Johnson Theater, he's going to present a full recital of French piano music."

Kramer says the festival will conclude with Carrell teaching a master class to Northwest Students next Monday.

"He, of course, is an outstanding pianist.  He not only specializes in French music, but a variety of other music, even jazz.  And so our piano students here, and harpsichord and organ students have the rare opportunity to perform for him and have him give them suggestions as to how to improve their interpretation and playing.  So he's going to do that Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. also in the Charles Johnson Theater."
