Neely of Troop H in northwest Missouri receives the Valor Award

The Missouri State Highway Patrol recognized 31 employees at the Patrols annual awards and the Missouri Association of State Troopers emergency Relief Society banquet this past Saturday evening. Among the 31 Troopers, Matthew W. Neely of Troop H in northwest Missouri received the Valor Award. Trooper Neely received the award from a theft in progress on March 19, 2018. Trooper Neely observed and followed the vehicle when traveling southbound on Interstate 35. When exiting I-35 to Missouri Route N in Davies County, the vehicle slid of the roadway and cashed into a utility pole where the male driver escaped on foot while the female passenger stayed in the car.  Trooper Neely pursued the man on foot and the man fired a Glock handgun multiple times at Trooper Neely. When the shooting stopped, Neely notified Troop H of shots fired and advanced on the man while issuing commands that he drop his weapon. The suspect failed to comply and attempted to re-engage. Trooper Neely fired his Patrol issued weapon striking the suspect twice.
