Maryville library receives grant for non-fiction material

Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft announced that 15 libraries have received public library non-fiction collection development grants totaling $36,905. The Maryville Public Library received $2,405 from the grant. Director of Maryville Public Library, Stephanie Patterson, says this grant helps provide funding for non-fiction materials.

"We'll be using it to update our adult and young adult book collection in the areas of physical and mental health including addictions and living with a family member with addictions, computer science, technology and career development.  These specific topics that I just mentioned are not only critical resources that we offer our Maryville residents, but they are subjects in which it's difficult to find high quality, reliable information that is current online and the best books out there on these subjects tend to be more expensive than your average book.  So you know, this small bit of assistance made possible by the states libraries is certainly very welcome to us."

Patterson adds that they hope to purchase the new books soon to have them available during the summer.  Two other libraries in the region also received funding from the Nonfiction Collection Development Grant program, the Albany Carnegie Public Library received a $2,500 and the Hamilton Public Library received $2,000.
