Main Street Chillicothe is re-accredited

Main Street Chillicothe is once again a nationally and state accredited Main Street community. The accrediation comes following a program visit from representatives of the national Main Street Center and Missouri Main Street Connection. State Director of Missouri Main Street, Gayla Rotten, says there are several benchmarks a community needs to meet to receive accrediation.

"They have to meet 10-point criteria which is everything from showcasing their volunteerism, projects that have been done, public and private investment.  Just numerous achievements that they have to meet on a yearly basis to be accredited.  We're just happy and excited that they are accredited again this year, but as well as being a semi-finalist for the Great American Main Street Award."

Rotten says there are several benefits for a community to receive accrediation.

"It's the heart of the community.  The community there knows that.  They get involved in it.  You will see that the Main Street program has many partners from tourism, to the Chamber, to the City, to other non-profits.  But most of all, what you really see is a vibrant, lively community in the downtown that you're proud of."
