Grow Native workshop to be held in Albany June 21st

The Missouri Prairie Foundation will bring its annual Grow Native workshop to the area this summer.
The workshop, titled Native Plants for Agriculture, Pollinator Enhancement, and Livestock Production is intended to grow awareness of the benefits of native plants to farms and recreational land. Executive Director of tlhe Missouri Prairie Foundation, Carol Davit, says the workshop will feature a variety of speakers and topics.

"One speaker will talk about prairie strips, how to use prairie plants integrating prairie plants within rural crop agriculture that really helps safeguard soil resources and provides many other benefits.  Another talk will focus on using native plants on farms to enhance pollinator habitats.  Another talk will be about how to establish and maintain native forage for livestock.  And then we have another speaker, Matt Arndt, who is a consulting forester and arborist and he's going to talk about how to control invasive plants.  And then we have Jake Swafford who works for Quails Forever/Pheasants Forever and he's going to talk about federal cost share programs that are available that'll help landowners put these various practices into place."

Davit adds this workshop will have a benefit for more than just farmers.

"This is really all about how to improve farm revenues, how to make land healthier and more productive for working lands and for recreational lands.  And then of course anybody, even if they're not a landowner, but they have an interest in land health and native plants, are more than welcome to attend."

The Grow Native Workshop takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 21st at the Hundley Whaley Research Center in Albany.  For more information or to register, call 888-843-6739 or visit grownative.org.
