The University of Missouri Extension office in Grundy County has received a grant to assisst with a program for incarcerated women.
The grant, called a CollaborACTION grant, was awarded by the Heartland Foundation in the abount of $4,350. The grant money will be used by the Grundy County Extension office for its Step Out and Up to Leadership program for incarcerated women. Heartland Foundation Resources Coordinator Dr. Sandra Pettit Weber says the program works to benefit the women being released from local correctional centers.

"I'm kind of excited to hear their progress of their project once it gets started.  Basically, it's a leadership program to teach life skills to incarcerated women preparing to re-enter the community.  The goal is to help women find a place for their strengths in the community.  They will be learning leadership and life skills."
