Burn period extended till the end of month for Maryville

The City of Maryville has extended its open burning through the end of this month. The open burning window was originally scheduled for April 1st through the 14th but it has now been extended through the end of April. Maryville Public Safety Director Keith Wood says the extension is to allow residents to get rid of winter debris.

"Essentially, I think we've had a pretty rough winter.  There's a lot of tree debris, yard debris, things of that nature that people are trying to clean up their yard as spring rolls around.  The extension on the burn time will actually just give them more time till the end of the month to get that taken care of."

Wood adds there are some regulations for open burning.

"They cannot burn within proximity of an out building and they need to have a water source readily available.  Other than that, that's pretty much it.  And then the fire needs to be manned or managed at all times."

Open burning can continue through the end of April.  For more information on open burning visit maryville.org.
