Even with recent flooding along the Missouri River, Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska has been operating at 100 percent. Supervisor of Media Services for Nebraska Public Power District, Mark Beckern says Cooper Nuclear declared a Notice of Unusual Event early Friday morning.

"We continue to monitor the river over the week, weekend.  If it would have gotten to a level above 901.5, the plant would have been shut down.   We did not reach that level.  The plant is still in a notificiation of unsual event classification with the NRC. We continue to monitor the river levels.  They've been going down slightly."

Becker adds the plant is operating safely.

"All safety precautions we're taking, as far as procedures for a flood event.  We still have all of our safety equipment available in case we have any kind of flooding.  But right now, we don't see that.  The levees around the Cooper Station that we operate are in good shape according to the corps of engineers."
