City Council approves amendment for improvement project

The Maryville City Council approved an amendment to an agreement with SK Design Services at its meeting Monday night. The agreement was on design services for the south main corridor improvement project. Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel says the agreement allows the city to continue to move forward with the project.

"To begin the process of engineering and design for the remaining portions of South Main associated with the South Main Corridor Improvement Project.  The city received 10.4 million dollars from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Build Program in December.  This project will allow us to move forward and completely reconstruct Main Street from South Avenue south to the Highway 71 Bypass."

McDanel adds the project should be underway by next year.

"Monday's approval allows to proceed with engineering.  Preliminary engineering will probably take until November.  We'll be working with property owners up through final design in spring of 2020 with a bid in late spring and beginning construction of July 2020."
