Maryville receives build grant for South Main Corridor Project

The Maryville City Council heard an update on the necessary steps to move forward with the South Main Corridor Project at its meeting Monday night.
The project will work to enhance South Main Street from South Avenue to the Highway 71 bypass. Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel says the city is grateful to have received a build grant for the project.

"You know, to be a recipient of a build grant is special in and of itself.  There was only 91 communities across the United States that were approved for this funding.  So to be one of the 4 projects in Missouri is exciting. We have the opportunity in front of us now to create a corridor that's transformative,  to do more than just a roadway, to do something that's going to make an impact Maryville in the next 40-50 years."

McDanel adds the council outlined the steps involved in getting the project done.

"The first step would be to make sure all the contacts are in place with the FHWA through the build program.  There's a lot of paperwork and reporting that's required to get this going. Then it's to get the designer turned loose on getting the remainder of the corridor designed and obtaining pubic input and getting property owners invested in the solution.  It's going to be a great project."

McDanel says the city has had three meetings with the state and national organizations involved and that the corridor will be designed this year with construction to begin in Spring of next year.
