Wright earns MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors

Northwest Missouri State University quarterback Braden Wright earned player of the week honors from the MIAA after just his second collegiate start.

The redshirt freshman accounted for 351 total yards and three touchdowns as the Bearcats beat Washburn in Topeka, Kansas last Thursday night. The league rewarded him for his effort naming him MIAA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Wright scored his first touchdown against the Ichabods midway through the second quarter on a 27-yard run that tied the game. Trailing 17-14 with just over seven minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Elkhorn, Nebraska native took off for a 17-yard touchdown run that put the Bearcats up for good.

In the fourth, Wright through a 14-yard touchdown pass to Chase White to give Northwest a 14-point lead.

Through two games, Wright has 449 pass yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. He's also leading the MIAA with completing 66-percent of his passes. He's also fourth in the conference averaging 90.5 rush yards per game.

The MIAA also named Jabbar Miles of Missouri Western the defensive player of the week, and Brandon Dandridge of Missouri Western the special teams player of the week.

Northwest looks to improve on its 2-0 start this Saturday. The Bearcats host Missouri Southern at 1:30pm. Pregame on KXCV-KRNW begins at 12:30pm.
