Albany Aldermen approve gas supply agreement

The Albany Board of Aldermen met recently and approved a natural gas supply agreement.
Albany City Administrator Derek Brown says the agreement is to help lower the cost of natural gas for the city.

"Albany along with 50 some other municipalities that use the same vendor for natural gas purchases collectively pre-purchases gas for a number of years in an effort to obvisously save some money on these gas purchases.  But basically, it's pre-approving gas sales for five to seven years acting collectively as a group of cities that own gas utilities."

The board also approved a natural gas purchase agreement for Smithfield Hog Production, candidate filing dates for the April elections and awarding a portion of December's electric bill to the winner of the Albany Chamber of Commerce lighting contest.
