Northwest students trained in NY for disaster response

Nine students from Northwest Missouri State University traveled to New York last month to participate in a disaster response exercise.
The exercise, called New York Hope, took place in Whitestown, New York and featured college students from across the country gaining hands-on experience and training for future emergency services careers. The students were trained in emergency medical treatement, damage assessment, wilderness search and rescue, and cybersecurity. Students also practiced water rescue at the Swift Water Rescue Area. The state of Missouri offers a similar disaster training program called Missouri Hope. The sixth annual Missouri Hope Disaster Response Field Training Exercise is taking place October 4th through the 7th in Maryville. Interested students can sign up for the training exercise at nwmissouri.edu/socialsciences.
