Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper involved in shooting incident

A Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper was involved in a shooting in Daviess County yesterday.

According to a release from the Patrol, at 10:46 a.m., the Harrison County Sheriff's Department advised Troop H Headquarters of a theft in progress in Ridgeway. The department gave the Patrol a description of a vehicle involved and notified Troop H that the car was southbound on Interstate 35. A trooper observed a vehicle matching the description exit the interstate at Route N, driving westbound, and the trooper began pursuit, overtaking the vehicle. The trooper watched the vehicle slide through the intersection of Route N and US 69 and crash into a ditch.

The release states that the male driver of the vehicle and a female occupant fled the vehicle and the trooper pursued them on foot, at which point the male suspect fired shots at the trooper. The trooper returned fire, striking the suspect, who was subsequently taken into custody. The female subject was apprehended a short time later.

The release notes that the suspect is in a Kansas City area hospital, where he was transported by ambulance after he was apprehended. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with the Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control and Daviess County Sheriff's Department both on the scene conducting the investigation into the shooting.
