Man faces criminal charges in Linn and Livingston Counties

A homeless man was arrested in western Kansas and is now facing multiple criminal charges in Linn County and Livingston County.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff's Office, an investigation began in the early morning hours of Feb. 11, 2018 when the office began an investigation into a residential burglary and motor vehicle theft case. Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox says the deputy found the car rather simply.

With help from Kansas law enforcement, the office obtained pictures of the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Ronald Duane Smith, who had two warrants out for his arrest in Linn County, Mo. as well. Cox says Smith was then apprehended in Kansas.

In Linn County, Smith faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, and a Brookfield Municipal charge of trespassing, a class B misdemeanor. Following his arraignment in Linn County, Smith faces charges of burglary and tampering with a motor vehicle. Both are class D felonies.

Smith is currently being held without bond in the Macon County Jail.
