Two killed, one seriously injured in accident near Savannah, Mo.

Two persons were killed and another seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident in Andrew County yesterday morning. According to a report from the Missouri Highway Patrol, a pick-up driven by 18-year-old Kendell R. Delp of Amazonia was westbound on U-S 59, three miles west of Savannah, around 11:16 a.m. and a pick-up driven by 18-year-old Landon K. Smith of Amazonia was eastbound on U-S 59.

Delp crossed the centerline and went off the left side of the road while Smith went off the right side in an attempt to avoid Delp's pick-up. The front of Delp's pick-up struck Smith's vehicle head on. Both drivers were killed while a passenger in Smith's pick-up, 12-year-old Cole C. Smith of Amazonia, received serious injuries and was taken to Mosiac Life Care in St. Joseph before being transferred to Children's Mercy in Kansas City.

The accident was investigated by the Missouri Highway Patrol's Major Crash Investigative Unit and the Andrew County Sheriff's Department.
