Boil advisory issued for Northwest Missouri State University

The City of Maryville has issued a boil advisory for Northwest Missouri State University, the Phi Sigma house, and residential structures near West First Street and Alco Street.

The advisory was triggered as a result of a 10-inch water line break near that intersection. The repairs were made overnight, and the valve was reopened at 5 a.m. this morning. Those impacted by the boil advisory will have received a door hanger from Maryville Public Works indicating such a need.

A boil advisory is a precautionary measure indicating that the water supply may have been contaminated. Consumption of water is discouraged, though regular shower usage may continue. Standard hand-washing procedures with tap water should be completed with a germicidal soap or hand cleanser.

Water should be boiled for three minutes before drinking or brushing teeth. You can also use bottled water. Any ice cubes made by ice makers should be thrown out. The advisory is in effect until Wednesday at noon.
