KCP&L Storm Tips

As storm season rolls in, Kansas City Power and Light (KCP&L) wants customers to be prepared.
North district manager, Tom Burke, says spring thunderstorms can leave residents with no power.
He says it's important to have a storm kit.

If the power in your home is out, Burke advises you to disconnect or shut off all appliances that could turn back on automatically.
He says as power returns, those appliances could overload your circuits.
If you or a family member are on electrical life-support equipment without a back-up power supply you can register with KCP&L as a medical customer.
Burke adds all outages and downed lines should be reported to KCP&L.
If you find a downed powerline, Burke says to keep your distance, it should be assumed that all down power lines are hot.
The number to register as a medical customer, report downed powerlines or outages is 1-888-471-5275.
