Speaking Bearcats win big

The Speaking Bearcats are ranked 6th in the nation.  The Speech and Debate team from Northwest Missouri State University ended its season this past weekend at the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament in Indianapolis.
Freshman Hugh Slaton won the national title in Student Congress.  Freshman Nick Van Ross was the national winner in Public Forum Debate Speaker.  The freshman team of Emily Meyers and TyQuan Baskin took the national title in Improvisational Duet Acting. The freshmen team of Emily Meyers and Nick Van Ross placed 2nd in Public Forum Debate.  Sophomores Katie Arp and Shawn Dixon placed 3rd in Student Congress and Public Forum Debate Speaker, and senior Gabbi Ray placed 5th in Program of Oral Interpretation.
Northwest Missouri State Director of Forensics, Brian Swafford says every student took home at least one award from the weekend competition.  He adds this impressive showing bodes well for the future of the program.

Though the 2013-2014 season is over for the Bearcats, Swafford says it's never too early to start preparing for the next season.

The Bearcats will start next season in early October, and will be hosting a national debate tournament on campus late next March.
