A black maple tree growing in southeastern Harrison County recently qualified for the list of Missouri State Champion trees.
The Missouri Department of Conversation (MDC) keeps a list of champion trees based on trunk circumference, height and crown spread.
The champion black maple tree is growing in a field edge in southeastern Harrison County. It stands at 58 feet tall, has a crown spread of 81 feet and a trunk circumference of 115.8 inches.
The tree is owned by Gilman City native John Milligan.
MDC forester Jason Severe recently presented Milligan with a state champion tree plaque.
