New Candidate in Missouri State Senate Race
A Republican state House member has announced plans to run for a northwestern Missouri Senate seat.
Delus Johnson said Monday the region needs a "proven conservative leader with business experience." He first was elected to the Legislature in 2010 and is a former St. Joseph Fire Department captain. He also has owned a training company that helped entrepreneurs to start businesses.
Johnson announced plans to run for the seat after fellow Republican House member Casey Guernsey said he would not. Guernsey reported about $110,000 in his campaign account at the end of 2013. Candidate filing starts Feb. 25.
The northwestern Missouri Senate seat currently is represented by Republican Sen. Brad Lager of Savannah, who cannot seek re-election because of Missouri's term limits.
