Clarinda Recreational Trail

The City of Clarinda, Iowa is moving forward with a plan to build recreational trails throughout the city.
The Council recently approved a grant application for funds from the Iowa Department of Transportation.
The $35,000 in grant money would be used to fund phase two of the project.
City Manager Gary McClarnon says the idea to build the trail came from a local high school student's proposal a couple of years ago.

That teenagers name is Luke Christianson.
McClarnon says, at the time, the council did not have the resources to pursue Christianson's idea.
After years of fundraising efforts, he says adding the trail is now an important part of the city's healthy living initiative.

According to McClarnon, a future phase of the trail project will lead to Clarinda's Lied Public Library.
