The National Association of County and City Health Officials along with the Office of the Surgeon General awarded the Northwest Missouri Medical Reserve Corps (Core) a 20 thousand dollar MRC Challenge Award.
The money will be used to send 2 medical reserve corps (Core) members to attend a Mental Health First Aid instructor's workshop.
Those two members will then be able to offer Mental Health First Aid training to law enforcement, first responders, educators, and others.
Unit Coordinator Kelly Kiberige (Kee-ber-rig-ay) says people need to know how to respond to a mental health crisis.
Northwest Missouri Medical Reserve Corps mission is to engage volunteers to support public health, and strengthen emergency response.
