Maryville Student to Compete for Scholarship

A Maryville High School Senior is in the running for a state-wide scholarship. Michael Filips was selected to represent the Maryville R-II School District for the John. T. Belcher Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship is sponsored by the educational foundation of the Missouri School Boards Association. Maryville Superintendent Larry Linthacum says the scholarship honors Belcher who was instrumental in developing finance programs for schools in the state. He adds Filips is a good representative for Maryville High School.

Linthacum says if Filips wins at the regional level he will compete for a state scholarship worth $1,500 and would be recognized at the Missouri School Boards Association's spring meetings in April.
