The Northwest Missouri State Bearcat women's and men's basketball teams split a doubleheader with Pittsburg State Thursday night at Bearcat Arena to open up the MIAA portion of their schedule. The Bearcat women were tied at halftime and lost 57-55. Bearcat head coach Michael Smith says early turnovers cost his team.
Ashleigh Nelson led Northwest with 18 points. The Bearcats fall to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA.
The Northwest men's basketball team led from the opening tip to the final buzzer in defeating the Gorillas 75-58. Bearcat men's head coach Ben McCollum says he liked the effort he got from his team for the full forty minutes.
The Bearcats largest lead of the game was 17 points middway through the second half. Connor Crooker had a career high 27 points in leading Northwest to the win. BURNSVILLE, Minn. - The Northwest Missouri State football team placed five individuals on the Daktronics Super Region #3 team. Junior defensive end Matt Longacre, who earned first-team honors, was also named the Defensive Player of the Year. Cornerback Brandon Dixon and offensive lineman Cody Carlson were named first-team performers and linebackers Eric Reimer and D.J. Gnader each earned second team honors. All five honorees were also first-team All-MIAA performers.
