One man is in serious condition and five others are injured after a six vehicle accident kept northbound lanes closed on Interstate 29 for hours yesterday evening.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol 45-year-old Robert J. Sanko was heading north on I-29 north of Platte City at mile marker 22-point-eight. His 2014 Freightliner smashed into the rear end of a vehicle driven by 65-year-old Jerry R. Wofford of Topeka Kansas at 5:30 p-m. Wofford had slowed down from ongoing contruction and rush hour traffic. Sanko's Freightliner continued up the road striking three more vehicles from the rear and pushing them into the median. A sixth vehicle was struck by one the cars initially hit by the freightliner. Wofford was taken by ambulance to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph with serious injuries and it is unknown whether he had on his seat belt. All other parties suffered minor injuries in the accident and they were wearing their seatbelts.
