NW Regional Council Receives Grant

The Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments has received a USDA grant designed to reduce the amount of solid waste going into area landfills.

The Solid Waste Management Technical Assistance Grant is for 21 thousand 500 dollars. According to the Regional Council's Environmental Planner, Linda Laderoute the grant will provide assistance to rural communities in reducing recyclables currently going into the solid waste stream.

A recycling survey will be conducted in the five-county northwest Missouri region which will gather data on the recycling infrastructure and resident's attitudes toward recycling actitivities. Cities with a population of 500 or more that participate in the survey will be eligible to receive technical assistance for the development of recycling plans.
