Fatal Crash Near St. Joseph

A Brandon, South Dakota man is dead after a two car accident just north of St. Joseph Saturday night.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol,a truck driven by 54-year-old Michael T. Cohoon, was southbound on Interstate 29, eleven miles north of St. Joseph when a second vehicle, driven by 56-year-old Gary Grable, of St. Joseph had pulled from the shoulder into the driving lane. Cohoon struck the car from behind, causing his 2005 Freightliner to go off the west side of the roadway, jack-knifing and coming to rest on its wheels on the shoulder, facing northeast. The second vehicle was pushed off the east side of the roadway, where it overturned once and came to rest on its wheels in the median. Cohoon was pronounced dead at Heartland Regional Medical Center at 8:20. Grable suffered only minor injuries. All parties were wearing seatbelts.
