WIC Breastfeeding Week

The City of St. Joseph Health Department is holding events to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week...

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated each year from August first through August seventh in more than 170 countries. Its purpose is to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world. According to Public Information Officer for the St. Joseph Health Department Stephanie Malita, breastfeeding has its challenges but it also has a lot of benefits.

To celebrate World Breastfeeding Week the St. Joseph Health Department will hold "The Big Latch On" Saturday at the East Hills Mall. Mothers will meet in the food court at 10:00 A.M. to breast feed at a set time for one minute. Monday the "Understanding Baby Behavior" seminar will teach parents how their baby communicates. The seminar begins at 5:00 at the Keatley Center Activities will end Wednesday with a baby shower at the Keatley Center in St. Joseph. WIC members must RSVP for the baby shower.
