Maryville School Board approves Budget and bond issue plans

The Maryville Board of Education approved an approximate 17 million 800 thousand dollar operating budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year during last night's meeting.

The Board also approved a five cent increase to the school's tax rate. In addition, the Maryville Board approved plans to place a bond issue on the April ballot which would fund renovations to Eugene Field Elementary and the construction of a performing arts center. Maryville Superintendent of Schools, Larry Linthacum says the school board's action would not create any additional taxes for district patrons.

Linthacum says the district will seek a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant for a safehouse that would also serve as a practice gymnasium for athletics.

Linthacum adds the budget approved by the school board will have the district finishing the fiscal year with approximately 133 thousand dollars in more revenue than expenditures.
