Iowa Health Insurance Marketplace

Iowa officials and federal authorities are still putting the final touches on the health insurance marketplaces, where people without health coverage or those paying high rates can shop for more affordable policies, with some costs possibly paid by the government.

The enrollment period for the marketplaces begins October 1st. Jon Bailey of the Center for Rural Affairs says his group has been taking many questions by e-mail and on its website from rural residents. He says the first one is almost always the same.

Bailey says Iowans don't have to make up their minds immediately. They can take their time choosing the policy that best fits their needs.

Whether or not people qualify for a subsidy depends on their income, and there are online calculators available. Bailey says the Center for Rural Affairs has also posted answers to some of the common questions on its website, at www.cfra.org.
