Northwest graduate to Provide Scholarship

A Northwest Missouri State University graduate wants to make sure history and social science majors are have the finances to attend Northwest.

Mitchell Akers, a 1987 graduate is giving a six figure gift to establish the Mitchell Akers Scholarship Fund for an undergraduate student. Akers says it would have been impossible for him to receive a quality education without financial assistance. Akers says he recognizes the need for financial assistance as college costs rise. To qualify for the scholarship, the student must maintain a full-time enrollment, have a grade point average 3.25 or above and be qualified for financial assistance. The scholarship is preferred for history and social science majors but may be expanded to include all education majors.
