17 people died in traffic crashes during the 2013 Fourth of July holiday counting period.
None of the fatalities were recorded in northwest Missouri's Troop H region. The counting period began Wednesday, July 3rd at 6 pm and ended at 11:59 pm Sunday evening. The Missouri Highway Patrol worked 358 traffic crashes and arrested 199 people for driving while intoxicated. According to a report from the Patrol...two people apparently drowned on July 4th at Smithville Lake in Clinton County. The body of 55 year old John-S-Butts of Smithville was recovered July 5th near Smithville Lake Access 14...while the body of Gregory-E Weese of Plattsburg was also recovered on July 5th near Smithville Lake Access 14. The investigation into their death's continues.
