Gov Nixon's Broadband Initiative

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon was in Savannah yesterday afternoon for the announcement of United Electric Cooperative's United Fiber project.

The program will provide high speed-internet to nearly 5 thousand 500 households, businesses and local schools in rural northwest Missouri. The project is part of a public/private partnership called Mo-Broadband-Now. Governor Nixon announced his broadband initiative in 2009 and says the project is ahead of schedule.

Nixon says having high-speed data available to rural areas of the state...such as northwest Missouri...will be boost to the area's economy.

United Electric Cooperative was awarded 21 million dollars through a 70/30 match program to help fund the project.
