Missouri Governor Jay Nixon is visiting St Joseph School District's Media Center today to meet with school administrators, teachers, and board members.
In the meeting, he will discuss the impact on Missouri schools of losing hundreds of millions of dollars in funding if House Bill 253 becomes law. Governor Nixon vetoed the bill last month, calling it an unnecessary and unaffordable experiment. House Bill 253 would force cuts to education funding and raise the taxes on prescription drugs in Missouri. Governor Nixon says the bill would drain hundreds of millions of dollars from schools statewide. The meeting gets underway at 6:30 pm at the Troester Media Center. The Governor will be joined by budget and policy experts from his administration.
