Fort Smith Park Opening

The Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee of St. Joseph is hosting the Grand Opening of Fort Smith Park.

Fort Smith was built in September, 1861 as a safeguard against conflicting armies battling on either side of the state line during the Civil War. The fort was re-discovered in 2003. According to Coordinator of the Fort Smith Project and Chairman of the St. Joseph Civil War Committee, Joe Houts, the park features Civil War era replicas.

Fort Smith Park is a passive park where visitors can relax, picnic and get a beautiful view of the city and beyond. Fort Smith Park is located at the Corner of Bellevue Street and West Michel Street.
