St. Joseph Plant Closes

A northwest Missouri packaging company that was founded nearly a century ago has been closed by its New York-based parent firm.

The Climax Packaging manufacturing plant was shut down Friday, eliminating 54 jobs. The company was founded in 1905 and originally made folding paper boxes and corrugated shipping cases. More recently, its products included gift boxes for national retailers such as Old Navy. Delta Point Capital Management bought the Missouri plant's assets in 2009 and made it a unit of Climax Manufacturing, based in upstate New York. An official of the parent company told the newspaper Friday the St. Joseph plant was no longer profitable. Attempts to find a buyer had been unsuccessful.
