MU Chancellor Retires

Brady Deaton, chancellor of the University of Missouri-Columbia, has announced his retirement.

Deaton, who was named chancellor in 2004, said Wednesday in Columbia that he's retiring Nov. 15. The university has not named his replacement. The university says under Deaton's leadership, the university has had significant increases in enrollment and research grants and expenditures. Since 2004, the university has also opened 21 new buildings and transitioned to the Southeastern Conference athletic conference. Deaton joined the university faculty as a professor and chairman of the Agricultural Economics Department in 1989. He was appointed chief of staff in the Office of the Chancellor in 1993, deputy chancellor in 1997 and provost in 1998.
