Rural Broadband program

A regional electric cooperative is in the middle of a project which will give rural residents access to high speed broadband service for voice, video and data.

United Services received a 21 point 2 million dollar grant and loan with 70 percent of the money coming in grant form for the project. Chief Executive officer Gene Dorrel says providing broadband for rural residents is a similar program to how his organization got its start.

Dorrel says they hope to have the fiber cable installed in the region in the next couple of months and then begin connecting the cable to homes or businesses after that. United Services covers parts of Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton, Dekalb, Gentry and Nodaway Counties.
