Groundwater monitoring wells will be part of the cleanup plan for a 2011 fuel spill in southeast Nebraska.
The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality last week approved the remediation and cleanup plan submitted by Magellan Midstream Partners. Department spokesman Jim Bunstock said the wells will keep the department and Magellan apprised of any groundwater contamination. More than an estimated 119,000 gallons of fuel were spilled about 2 1/2 miles south of Nemaha on December 2011. A bulldozer operator clearing roots from a hedgerow hit the 8 and 12 inch pipelines, spilling gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.
