Benton High School Lockdown

Benton High School and Hyde Elementary School in St. Joseph were put on lock down yesterday when suspicious items were discovered in a wooded area near the schools.

The lockdown began around 10 yesterday morning when police identified the items as two firearms, ammunition, and controlled substances. St. Joseph Police Department Commander Janice Rothganger says following a search of the area by law enforcement personnel, students were allowed back in the classroom.

The St. Joseph Police Department is investigating to determine where the items came from. Anyone with information is asked to call the tips hotline at 816-238-TIPS.
