Two former teachers and Republican Missouri House members have been removed from an education panel by the House speaker.
Republican Speaker Tim Jones on Thursday dismissed Reps. Mike Thomson, of Maryville, and Elaine Gannon, of DeSoto, from the House education committee. Their removal came the same day two other House Republicans were ousted from a fiscal oversight panel for joining Democrats to block a similar education bill from reaching the House floor. Thomson says he isn't sure why he was removed but said he doesn't agree with some of the education proposals currently being pushed by Jones and House leadership. Thomson and Gannon both voted against a teacher evaluation bill that is one of Jones' top education priorities. That measure was defeated 102-55 in the House two weeks ago.
