Johnson Controls The Garden

St. Joseph residents are invited to join employees of Johnson Controls as they prepare the Second Harvest Community Food Bank's garden for the planting season.

The garden is a low-cost, low-technology demonstration that teaches how to grow your own food using minimal resources. As a form of education to all community members, the garden uses techniques for chemical-free fruits and vegetables. Second Harvest Community Food Bank Public Relations Specialist, Aaron Smullin, says this is the first effort of its kind.

This year, produce from the garden will go towards The Senior Box, a program that provides healthy food to seniors monthly. The garden preparation event takes place Saturday from 9am to 2pm with lunch provided. For more information, call 816-364-3663.
