Fort Smith Grant

A Civil War site in Saint Joseph receives a grant to expand an exhibit.

The Daughters of the American Revolution awarded a 9 thousand 850 dollar grant for Fort Smith...which was an important location during the Civil War. It provided one of the highest vantage points of St. Joseph and the Missouri River. A group of St. Joseph residents have been busy constructing a replica of the Fort and it's original site. Buchanan County Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee Member Joe Houts says the grant will help expand the artillery exhibit.
