There was only a 12 percent turnout of voters casting ballots in yesterday's Buchanan County Election.
One of the main issues on the Buchanan County ballot was a county-wide use tax which passed with just 50 point 54 percent of the vote. 49.46 percent voted against the issue. The use tax will impose a tax on out-of-state purchases where no local tax is applied. The Buchanan County R-Four School District overwhelmingly passed a 1 point 6-5 million dollar tax levy extension that will provide funds for renovations to the school district's facilities. The issue passed with over 81 percent in favor of the proposal. In the Mid-Buchanan R-Five School District...in the Board of Education race, David Schottel and David Scaggs were elected...Shottel received over 38 percent of the votes cast with Scaggs receiving over 32 percent. B. Chad Shelley finished third with 28 percent of the vote. Only 6.717 voters out of a total of 52 thousand 811 in Buchanan County went to the polls yesterday.
